Wireless Post

Ladies and gentlemen, this is the first post to my blog from my mobile phone. The bblog admin interface has one element that is really annoying when browsing in a palm, but I’m confident that I will be able to modify that behavior.

While I have nothing of great significance to post about right now, you can be sure that I will at some point in the future and I will share it with you instantly.

I wonder if I can get an FTP client for Palm OS. I probably can.

Update: I found an OSS application called plogit that is a blog client. It supports the metaWeblog API (which uses XML-RPC) which my blogging software, bblog, also supports. Sweet.

I Win

So, I bought the Palm Treo 650 as a hardware upgrade with Rogers. The day after I bought it, the camera stopped working. The Palm actually stopped recognizing the camera device. I tried a hard reset and, when that didn’t work, hit the forums. Apparently it’s a hardware problem and the only solution is to get a new Palm.

So I called Rogers and they told me to go back to the dealer. I did the HUP at Wireless Express. Rob initially told me that he’d have to check with “inventory”. I called him back the next day and he said he still had to check with them. Today I was ready to go down at lunch time and demand the phone be exchanged. Just as I was eating lunch Rob called and told me he couldn’t do a straight exchange. I explained my stance again and asked to speak to the manager; he is the manager. So I asked to speak to the regional manager. This was a chap named Michael.

Michael was much more receiptive to me then Rob seemed to be. He listened to my concerns as a customer and explained his stance as a business. We both agreed that we were both being reasonable so he would look into the appropriate channels to see how such an exchange would be handled for the business. Half-an-hour later, Rob called me back to tell me that he can do a straight exchange for me in store.

I WIN.

My Mac shipped. Maybe I’ll see it next week (though, it is a short week). OS X 10.4.1 is out. I’m a happy camper right now.

Wow, a Substantial Update!?

I’ve started into the routine of going to sleep early on Friday nights to catch up on sleep lost during the week. It makes me look forward to an extreme version of the sleep-after-really-long-work-week that we may see this summer for a big project we’re working on.

Alex is reading The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon and she has said she understands why I would enjoy the book, given the logical thinking of the narrator (a teenaged autistic boy). So I did some reading on autism which lead me to Asperger’s syndrome. I have to say, there are many things documented in AS that I readily identify with–not to say that I am autistic. It’s intrieging to read that I am not the only one who has felt/thought the way that I do sometimes.

In part due to work, and in part due to self-interest, I want to get a Palm Treo 650. I’m not eligable for a hardware upgrade with Rogers for another month so I am going to try to wait. This will also give me time to logic out whether or not it’s really worth it. Right now I think it is.

I’d like to end by saying that I think what Paul Martin and the Liberals did in response to this week’s vote of non-confidence was great. It was the perfect response: it shows confidence, control, and understanding. I believe that we may be leading to an election but I still believe that Canadians haven’t changed their stance a whole lot since last year.

153-150

Okay, so maybe it wasn’t a confidence vote but, I think the Conservatives have proven to the Libs that they have the manpower to topple their government and they have proven that they have the desire to topple the government. I have to agree with Harper when he says it’s “just a matter of time”. So what does post-poning the confidence vote do for the Liberals? It buys them time. But, what good is time if you’ve lost the trust of the people to do the will of the people.

Don’t get me wrong–I don’t believe that the people want the Conservatives in power; but I think there are many who don’t want to see the Liberals in power, and the difference is key. The people are going to vote a government out, not in, so the Liberals need to plan their moves very carefully. If the people believe the Libs are postponing the inevitable, for no reason, they will lose credibility (and I’m sure I don’t need to remind you that the Liberals’ credibility is hurting right now).

I say, call an election. I say, the Liberals have the support of Canadians–much more support than the Torries. Canadians are smart and take issues that affect our country seriously. From this whole situation–scandal, minority government, call to resign–we will all benefit from a governing system with improved checks and bounds. And it’s messy but, ultimately, Canadians will decide what’s best for our country so that we, and our government, can continue to keep Canada as the number one country in the World.

Oh, and a side note: someone should make a t-shirt that says “Your stupid.” Haha, hilarious.
