I am officially looking for new work. I want to stay in Kingston. I’m looking for a job in IT, especially in software development, especially working with UNIX-like systems and/or database applications. If anyone knows of any opportunities please let me know.
Congratulations go to all of the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series competitors on a great season, especially Tony Stewart for winning his second Nextel Cup Series Championship. Here’s to another great year of racing in 2006.
Some of you know that when I lived at home there never seemed to be any selection of beverages. Tap water, diet coke, and usually milk were it. When I moved out I vowed to have more selection. When I came home from the grocery store today I realized that I have FIFTEEN beverage options, with at least two more on the TO BUY list. Here they are:
- grape juice
- peach juice
- orange juice
- milk
- chocolate milk
- bottled water
- tap water
- filtered water
- hot chocolate
- coffee
- MGD
- 50
- Coke
- Coke with lime
- ginger ale
TO BUY
Update: Despite the selection, I am still tempted by a caramel mocha frappuccino blended coffee w/ both drizzles.
I left work early today. A little too early, in fact. The bus didn’t start coming to the Industrial Park until 30 minutes after I went out to get it. Woops. A co-worker happened to also be leaving early and saw me waiting. He offered me a ride to the Kingston Centre, which I accepted, where I was able to get on the very bus that didn’t come to the Industrial Park. So, in the end, I got home at the same time (4 p.m.) but I missed out on 30 minutes of reading time on the bus.
I’m reading iCon. Adam lent it to me as a gift when he was visiting last weekend. So far I really enjoy it. I enjoy reading about the beginnings of Apple Computer and a more about Steve Jobs. From reading about him I can definitely see that he really is as intense as people suggest.
A bit of snow fell on the city of Kingston today. It is supposed to warm up a bit tomorrow, though, which will mean an end to the snow. It’s too bad, because tomorrow is the Santa Claus Parade and it would have been nice to have a bit of snow for that.
I don’t understand why the Santa Claus Parade is so late. 5 p.m. start time. It will be dark by then. It doesn’t make any sense.
When I got home from work today I napped. It was a multi-hour nap, probably about three hours long, interrupted by a phone call. When I started at FCT I was usually exhausted by the time Friday evening came around. The pressure for deliverables has been less lately, and so I haven’t been overly tired for the past couple of months (with the occasional exception). This week was a bit different; I didn’t accomplish nearly as much as I have in previous high-pressure weeks, and this week wasn’t exactly high-pressure, but I was still exhausted by its end. I worked as hard as I could, but my output is down. I’m certain I know why–other work stresses–but it’s still an interesting result to me.
Sunday is the final race of the year for the NASCAR Nextel Cup series. A series champion will be crowned, with Tony Stewart holding a considerable lead. Though as I said to Mr. Sherman today, anything can happen.
Today is my very good friend Adam’s birthday. He told me that he visited the hospital where he was born early this morning, but it was closed. He also found the music of an obscure indie band on the iTMS. And those aren’t all of the fun things that have already happened for him today.
Happy Birthday, Adam.

Eddie Guerrero was a fantastic entertainer and, from everything I’ve read, heard, and seen, a great man. Tonight the WWE paid tribute to Eddie in an amazing fashion. He will be missed by all wrestling fans.
RIP Eddie Guerrero, 1967-2005.
I am on the train, en-route to Montreal. We’re in Belleville now.
Last night I was in Toronto for the Hanson concert. It was great. It was great to see Alex, too. And I shouldn’t forget her new cat, Rose.
Before the concert we went for dinner with Adam M. and Eric. Good, good times. Adam and Eric were going to the NIN concert at the ACC. I was super excited for them. Even during the Hanson concert I was thinking “NIN IS GOING TO ROCK”. I might have even screamed that at one point during Hanson.
I didn’t realize that it was going to be Adam’s first time seeing NIN. That’s special. I wish I could have gone with them. It was also Eric’s first time seeing NIN, and his first concert. A boatload of excitement right there. I received a text message after the show that said, simply, “you’re in for a treat tomorrow!”
I cannot describe my excitement now. I was exhuasted last night but I could barely sleep. And now, even with next to no sleep, I’m awake and ready for this awesome, awesome day. I was so excited that I even left my Maclean’s at Alex’s. I’ve had a lot of coffee today, too.
I just asked one of the train attendants if I can get a copy of the Kingston Whig Standard brought out to the train when we stop in Kingston. I’d have to get off the train and get it myself. It’s not worth it.
Look for a blog post from Adam after his weekend. I’m sure he’ll have lots to write about.
Update: Did I mention that I’m wearing slippers on the train? I’m travelling in LUXURY!
Sometimes people become scared. Sometimes people are afraid of what something can do to them physically; sometimes people are afraid of what someone can do to them emotionally. In either case, fearing what may or may not happen does nothing to make you feel better or more secure. One must be willing to risk getting hurt, physically or emotionally, in order to overcome their fear.
Right now I am feeling one of each of the aforementioned types of fear. Am I willing to take the risk? I hope so. Soon.
It’s a lot harder to blog when you don’t blog daily. Sounds kind of weird, right? If you skip a few days you should have even more stuff to blog about! And that is true, if blogging was a recount of your activities since the last post (here’s the curve ball: sometimes it is). But really, blogging is much more reflective. And I think that getting into the habit of publicly reflecting is what really helps with blogging. Odd, isn’t it, that this is, in itself, a reflection.
In other news, I really miss a few of my friends. Evan, for example, although I did see him on Thanksgiving and I’ve grown accustom to Evan being gone for long periods of time (school, and work). This weekend is Evan’s Birthday and he will be in town for that, which is great. I expect that I will see him on Sunday.
I really miss Adam, whom I have not grown accustom to being away for long periods of time. I talk to him lots online, when he isn’t busy with school work (and sometimes even when he is!). Adam is just about the best person to have a conversation with. He’s in town next weekend for his father’s birthday so hopefully I’ll see him then.
I really miss Alex. I am looking just as much forward to seeing her as I am to seeing Hanson in concert.
Just prepped a bunch of grapes for easy snacking. Possibly dinner soon.
I’m full. And my mouth burns. And that’s saying a lot coming from me; I think I have a pretty high tolerance for spicy food.
I made a pasta dish for dinner loosely based on this one. I used rigatoni pasta, no yellow pepper, different ratios, and topped it with shredded mozzarella cheese. Oh, and I also put in about 4 teaspoons of crushed red pepper flakes to serve one, rather than 1/4 teaspoon to serve six. Oops.
