A coworker of mine had purchased some Hershey Eggies on sale after this past Easter weekend. This lead us to discuss the differences between Eggies and Cadbury’s Mini Eggs. He challenged me on what I thought was universally agreed: Cadbury Mini Eggs are better than Hershey Eggies. His statement was that they are the same.

We later found a bag of Cadbury Mini Eggs left in the kitchen for everyone to enjoy. Using a selection from this bag, and a selection from coworker’s Eggies, he put me to a blind taste test to see if I could pick the Mini Egg. Surely I did, without hesitation. It was as formidable a moment as the time I smelled the difference between a glass of Coca-Cola and a glass of Pepsi.

I sought out the truth from the Internet and found that I am not the only one who believes Cadbury Mini Eggs are better.

Ladies and Gentlemen, please let me take a minute to write to you about the Food Bank.

The food bank helps people–families; children–get basic food supplies in the case of emergency and desperate need. In Ottawa thousands of people rely on the food bank every month, and in your local city I’m sure the food bank has an equally important impact. With the food bank your donation dollars are spread further than your donation amount through the power of purchasing and the generosity of the community.

This morning a co-worker of mine in Ottawa e-mailed to indicate that he is a member of the “Heroes Fighting Hunger” campaign. I think that is admirable, but I think it most importantly reminds us of an important cause. I donated to his campaign, but today I ask that you make a general donation or find your own Hero to donate to. You can find a list of heroes online, or make a general donation at the Ottawa Food Bank website.

I have been blessed to have never before needed the services of the food bank. If the same is true for you I would suggest that is even more reason for you to donate. If you have been helped by the food bank in the past and are now in a position to help: please think about the impact the food bank made on your life at the time and contribute to make that same impact on someone else’s life.

I know that I have readers from various cities, provinces, and countries. I welcome you to make a donation to the Ottawa Food Bank but encourage you to donate locally. Here are a few links:

Update: A receipt will be provided instantly via e-mail for donations of $10 and more to the Ottawa food bank.

Apparently it’s quite the challenge, and it’s quite humorous to watch. I did a little research with Google and found that it really does exist! Some of the videos, photos, and commentary about it are quite funny.

This particular challenge isn’t one that I’m interested in attempting but it is doesn’t sound easy.

I have been meaning to bring online a listing of the various food challenges I have encountered in my life. There is a wide variety of them and I’m sure I don’t even remember them all. But those that I do remember are all very interesting and deserve to be shared.

Many months ago Nail noticed that the four of us were able to consume an entire box of a dozen doughnuts in a very short period of time. “I bet you we could finish a dozen doughnuts in 2 minutes,” he stated. And the Doughnut Challenge was born.

Today we attempted the Doughnut Challenge. It was decided that filled doughnuts or cake doughnuts must be used. The doughnuts that made up the challenge included: boston cream, double chocolate, chocolate glazed, apple fritters, and some maple doughnuts. After the doughnuts arrived we began the challenge. 2 minutes was set on a timer and we began.

Muis was going for three boston cream doughnuts–an incredible challenge; a challenge that he powered through with success. Brian: two apple fritters and a double chocolate. Brian was the laggard of the group, consuming nearly both of the fritters but not touching the double chocolate. Nail had three maple doughnuts, which he nearly finished but not quite in time. And myself, I had a chocolate glazed, an apple fritter, and a double chocolate. At the end of two minutes I was left with a piece of double chocolate and a piece of apple fritter in either hand.

An unsuccessful attempt at the doughnut challenge.
