Jack Layton

Jack Layton is a politician and a Canadian who I respect. Layton’s passing was a surprise to us all, and I think it is fair to say that Canada is sad to have lost him. He was part of my perfect politician example, but truth is always better than fiction so I leave you [...]

MK’s Surprise Party, Bluesfest, Aventure Lafleche Photosets Posted

Hi Internet,

I have posted some new photosets to my Flickr account. In chronological order, MK’s Surprise 30th Birthday, Bluesfest 2011, and from a trip to Aventure Lafleche’s aerial adventure. It is worth noting that these events all took place before Stephanie worked her magic on my hair, which is now beautiful. None-the-less, they [...]

Hockey is for Everyone

CBC just picked up a news story about a hockey coach who is suspended for removing his team from the ice after an opponent directed a racial slur at one of the team’s players. I am a huge fan of this coach. He did the right thing.

A very Canadian story.

Saturday Morning Run ft. Bear Sighting

I went for a nice Saturday morning run this morning. A bear crossed my track. I like that this happened only a few kilometres away from where I live.

The Queen of Canada

I am a huge fan of the Queen, and couldn’t be more excited that she and the Prince are visiting Canada for our celebration of our 143rd anniversary. It is a great opportunity to really ponder the history of this amazing county. God save the Queen.

The Challenge: A Year in 100 Photographs

I am faced with a difficult challenge: a year in 100 photographs.

Before I left Ms. Kirkey was kind enough to prepare for me a photo album with a collection of photos of friends and family. I kept this photo album on my coffee table the entire time I was in Germany. It was [...]

Come On Everybody: Group Hug

Have you noticed that I haven’t written much lately? I promise that it’s not due to a lack of things to write about, nor is it due to a lack of time to write–I just don’t want to. I don’t want to write about the thing that I would have to write about: leaving [...]

1979 Video Rendition of the Canadian National Anthem

Today I stumbled upon the famous 1979 video rendition of the Canadian national anthem. Back in the day when TV stations used to “sign off” at the end of a night they would play this video; they would also start the broadcast day with this video. Even though it is now 30 years old [...]

Bagpipes

Have you ever thought about how in Canada you will now-and-then hear someone playing the bagpipes at a time when you least expect? I am sure that I have walked out of work in Ottawa and heard bagpipes, or been walking downtown and heard Scotland the Brave; this experience even goes back to when [...]

Happy Canada Day

Happy Canada Day!

I am a big fan of Canada Day–especially since moving to Ottawa. This year it’s a little different, not being in Canada and being at work. I miss it; I would love to be in Ottawa today. It’s too bad I didn’t decide to go back just for 3 days and [...]
